Fully Guided Lodge And Self Guided Cabin — New Zealand, North Island Package:5001185
Renowned for world-class dry fly and sighted large brown trout fishing at its door. Within easy driving distance of many of the country's best quality fishing rivers, this informal lodge is the perfect accommodation for the dry fly fisher. Located near the Ruakituri River, trophy trout are produced every season. Because the area is in a remote part of New Zealand, it is away from crowds and main tourism routes. This means a quiet, unique flyfishing experience complete with great catches.
The Ruakituri river is definitely one of the best large fish, rainbow and brown trout rivers in NZ. It also has one of the best evening hatches to Caddis and Mayfly that our guides have personally experienced. Intending guests will see from the visitors book, guides from all over the country in their leisure time come to what they fondly call the “Ruakituri Hilton”. This is where a lot of NZ ‘s top guides like to personally fish. Should bad weather occur this cabin is also within easy driving distance of two other quality trout fishing rivers as well as Lake Waikaremoana where spotting and casting to cruising trout on the shoreline is a New Zealand experience not to be missed.
Not only is the Lodge attractive for the world class dry fly and sighted large brown trout fishing at its door, it is also within easy driving distance of many miles of among N Z’s best quality fishing rivers for both dry fly and nymph presentation. As well as three other brown trout only rivers there are also five rainbow trout locations in the area. The latter are all top producers with one, the Ruakituri, having the largest river resident Rainbow trout in NZ. It also contains large browns.
Every season it producers trophy trout. This area being a remote part of NZ is away from the crowds and main tourism routes. The fish are not small, every season both brown and rainbow of double figures are landed. The true average is three and half pounds Many of the tributaries of these rainbow and trout rivers are small secluded streams running through private farms and sheep stations which as local residents we can access through the farm tracks with four-wheel drive vehicles.
This district has a closed season on all rivers, which allows the trout to reproduce undisturbed. Trout licences are available from either the lodge or the guides. The single biggest factor influencing your trip to NZ is the weather!
Our area is fortunate to have the most eastern trout rivers in NZ, in fact the world, and Gisborne the Chardonnay wine capital of NZ has the most settled weather in country. Wind is not normally a factor at Motu. We did not suffer from the serious flooding that occurred in New Zealand, summer (2004)
